A fence does not always need to surround a property. For multifamily buildings and condominium developments, chain-link fencing can also provide an efficient way to divide large interior spaces into secure, individually accessible storage areas.
Eastcoast Fence recently completed an interior chain-link fence installation for a condominium property in Neptune, New Jersey. The project called for 39 private storage enclosures for individual condo owners, all constructed within an existing finished building.
The result is an organized storage area that gives residents dedicated space for their personal belongings while making practical use of the building’s available square footage.
39 Individual Storage Enclosures Built to the Project Plans
Unlike a row of identical storage cages, this installation had to accommodate the existing layout of the building. Eastcoast Fence worked directly with the property owner and carefully laid out each enclosure according to the project plans.
The project included six different enclosure configurations:
- One 7′ x 10′ enclosure
- Three 15′ x 7′ handicap enclosures
- Eleven 8′ x 7′ enclosures
- Nine 10′ x 5′ enclosures
- Eight 13′ x 5′ enclosures
- Seven 6′ x 15′ enclosures
Although construction requirements remained consistent throughout the project, enclosure dimensions changed based on their location and the usable space available.
For developers and property owners, this type of custom layout can be particularly useful in condominium and multifamily buildings where every square foot counts.

Working Around Columns, Walls and Building Equipment
Interior fence installation presents a different set of challenges from a typical outdoor fence project.
The Neptune storage area already contained structural columns, walls, mechanical equipment and other fixed obstructions. The fence layout had to account for these existing conditions while maintaining the dimensions specified in the plans and preserving access through the storage area.
Accurate layout was an important part of the job. A misplaced fence line could reduce the usable area of an enclosure, interfere with a neighboring unit or create unnecessary restrictions around building features.
Eastcoast Fence laid out and installed all 39 enclosures around these conditions to create a practical arrangement of individual storage spaces while maintaining clear circulation through the building.
Galvanized Chain-Link Fence for Interior Storage
Galvanized chain link was selected for the individual enclosures. It is well suited to shared storage areas because it creates a physical separation between spaces while retaining visibility through the fence.
Each storage enclosure also received its own access gate, giving individual condo owners a defined entrance to their assigned storage area.
For condominium associations, developers and commercial property owners, chain-link storage partitions can provide several practical advantages. The open mesh makes it easier to maintain visibility throughout a shared storage room, while the galvanized construction provides a durable barrier that does not require the upkeep associated with many solid partition materials.
Chain link can also be configured around irregular spaces, making it useful for retrofit projects where the building layout has already been established.
Surface-Mounted Fence Posts for a Finished Building
One of the notable details of this project is how the fence posts were installed.
Outdoor chain-link fence posts are commonly set into the ground with footings. That approach was not appropriate for this finished interior concrete floor.
Instead, the posts for these storage enclosures were surface-mounted to the concrete using base plates and anchors. This installation method allowed the fence system to be secured inside the existing building without traditional post footings.
The photos from the completed project show the base-mounted posts, individual gates and continuous runs of galvanized chain link arranged around the building’s columns and other permanent features.
Making Better Use of Shared Space in Condominium Buildings
Providing storage for dozens of individual condo owners can create a significant planning challenge. Leaving a large room open does not provide residents with individually defined spaces, while constructing permanent solid rooms may not be appropriate for every building or project.
Individual chain-link enclosures offer another approach.
For this Neptune project, the fencing turned an open interior area into 39 separate resident storage spaces while maintaining an organized layout and access through the building. The different enclosure dimensions also allowed the design to make use of spaces that could not accommodate a single standardized footprint.
This concept can be useful for new construction and existing properties, including condominium buildings, apartment communities and other multifamily developments that need secure, separated storage areas.

Interior Chain-Link Fence Installation for New Jersey Projects
Projects like this require more than installing a standard run of fence. Contractors must work from the plans, account for existing building conditions, coordinate different enclosure dimensions and install numerous gates while keeping the finished layout usable.
Eastcoast Fence provides fencing solutions for builders, real estate developers, condominium and HOA communities, property managers and commercial property owners throughout Central New Jersey and the Jersey Shore.
Our capabilities extend beyond exterior perimeter fencing. If your plans call for chain-link storage enclosures, equipment partitions, secured interior areas, custom gates or another specialized fence application, our team can evaluate the space and develop an installation suited to the project.
